[MYSTERY SHACK’S FIRST QUEST]: UNRAVELLING THE MYSTERIES OF PAGTATAWAS

Pagtatawas is a divination ritual in pseudomedicine in Filipino Psychology. It attempts to diagnose an affliction or psychological disorder by interpreting shapes produced in water by heated alum or molten wax droppings from a burning candle. It is thus a form of both carromancy and oryctomancy.

As of these past few days, we went on a journey to take on a local mystery and tradition in the Philippines. We went on to meet with two ‘magtatawas’ to give us more knowledge about what they do and why they do it.
