Who killed dorothy Scott?

Updated: Oct 20, 2018

[READ more on her case in one of our articles from the True Crime area under the Unsolved Tab.] In 1980, Dorothy Jane Scott kept receiving mysterious phone calls at her job in Anaheim, California. Scott vanished outside a hospital and four years later, her remains were found. 38 years later her murder remains unsolved.

Though this case is not as internet famous as Jack the Ripper or the Black Dahlia case, the case of Scott still leaves many true crime fanatics puzzled on who killed her. From True Crime sites to Reddit and even, Pinterest, the case is known and left true crime fanatics building up theories of who her murderer is.

DOROTHY'S EX-BOYFRIEND

As mentioned on the previous article, it is known that Dorothy had a child that she had been raising on her own. Out of many people, we noticed that there is one person who wasn't much mentioned as a suspect. Dorothy's ex. We know that after a break-up and all, we have heard of having a crazy, psycho ex-lover who is all out on chasing you. My thoughts on this case is like this. Dorothy, might have met the guy briefly before and left her after she had Sean might want to come back. However, once he learned that Dorothy was living her life away doing normal things, he may have been bitter and have always been watching her back since then.

One of the many clues that I have noted on this is that, when someone called her phone home, Dorothy's mother, Verna, told the authorities that the voice sounded vaguely familiar but they couldn't remember.

But why kill his ex and not just win her back? Well, you might not know much about psycho exes but I have read many Subreddits regarding relationship drama and psycho exes have the tendency to think that they still 'own' you when you both have agreed that well, it's over. They just can't accept that. The ex may have seen Dorothy with her co-worker (you know, with the stalking and all) and got mad. Let me tell you, with the amount of threats telling her she's gonna be cut up in pieces, he is mad at her. Okay, maybe he saw her with Conrad and took her when she went back to the parking lot. As a result to his anger and jealousy, he punished her resulting to her death.

This sound plausible enough in my opinion because when the Scotts were receiving calls from the 'killer' after her death, he keeps on saying, "I killed her... I killed her". Now if you are a cold-blooded murder who goes out for his routine killing, would you be that affected and panicked? Not that I think so. But someone who used to be close to her and hurt her would

HER CO-WORKERS, PAM AND CONRAD

One of the many theories regarding Scott’s abduction is quite a sketchy one. On a Reddit thread, it is known that the emphasis lacking and the hospital scenario is quite sketchy to me. This theory claims that maybe, it was not Dorothy’s stalker who abducted her but it could be the people she was at the hospital with.

Pam, one of Scott’s co-worker stated that they were together the whole day. When said that Dorothy went to the hospital with Pam and Conrad because of a spider bite, it was not stated whether they asked her to accompany them or she volunteered to drive them to the hospital. It was quite unclear. The thought that someone would go to the ER because of an spider bite is sketchy. What is more intriguing is the fact that there is no verification of the visit. A Reddit user commented, “if it were a real emergency situation, why weren’t Conrad’s parents informed?”

A far chilling claim made its way to the thread, maybe it was Conrad’s and Pam’s doings after all. Dorothy was described to be a religious, kept, and even dull. This being said, maybe Dorothy walked into something else. What if the spider bite wasn’t a spider bite? This theory suggests that Scott may have walked into a ‘session’ that involved the two, a drug incident to be precise. Knowing Dorothy is quite a religious one, it can be a reason why the two got rid of her in order to keep her shut about what she may have walked in to.

This may sound right as the authorities were told that the caller whose calls were answered by the victim’s parents have a voice that sounds familiar, but cannot quite put a finger on. A co-worker may sound a best bet..

MIKE BUTLER

One of the suspects in the case is a man named, Mike Butler. As it turns out, Mike Butler passed away from health complications in 2014. On a site featuring his memorial, he was described to be a religious man that is well-known throughout his community. At the age of twenty, he was called into the U.S. Army; finished Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training in Infantry; was then assigned overseas to Hohenfels, Germany in 1967 and became a writer who was often published in Stars and Stripes News. After his military service ended, he worked as a roadie for several rock bands including the Beach Boys and his sister’s all-female band, Birtha. Mike has a sister who is an accomplished musician and singer in Southern California and, at one time, worked at Swinger’s Psych Shop; the same shop where Dorothy worked and I Dorothy’s father, Jacob, previously owned. An interesting discovery led to a great suspicion on Butler. Mike settled down in California and took a job as a machine shop maintenance employee. Moreover, In a 2016 article from a site namely Nightflight.com titled, "Feed Your Head: Night Flight takes a trip back to the early 70s head shop", the author who frequented Swinger’s Head Shop describes his experience with it in detail including the stating that Swinger’s was a a shop about a mile south of the Santa Freeway, next door or in close proximity to an auto mechanic or body shop or a muffler shop on the corner of Orange Ave. With these details, could it be that Mike Butler have worked at that “auto mechanic or body shop or muffler shop” that was close to Swingers? The stalker may have been Butler, a person who is constantly obsessing and harassing Dorothy and can even give an accurate description of her clothing. It is indeed possible that her murderer worked at that shop, granting him the opportunity to keep close tabs on her? Dorothy had told several people, including her parents, that she recognized the voice on the other end of the line but couldn’t recognize it. Dorothy, at some point, may have went to the shop and met the man.
